Overview

We provided scaffold access at Manor Farm to support solar installation works on a large agricultural barn. The project required safe working at height along the full roof line, while keeping ground-level access clear for ongoing site operations.

Client Requirement

The client needed a safe and practical access solution for installing solar panels across the barn roof. This included safe access to roof level for installation teams, continuous edge protection along the working area, and unobstructed access below for machinery and day-to-day farm use.

The works needed to be completed efficiently to fit within the installation programme.

Our Solution

We installed a 6 metre high access tower (2.4m x 1.2m) to provide secure access to roof level, along with approximately 50 metres of triple edge protection running the length of the barn.

The scaffold was supported with legs taken down to ground level and fixed to the steel structure at both high and low levels for stability. The design allowed clear gaps between supports, ensuring machinery could continue to operate beneath the scaffold without restriction.

Challenges on Site

Working on an active agricultural site meant access and usability were key considerations.

The main challenge was maintaining a safe and stable scaffold while still allowing vehicle and machinery movement beneath the structure. Careful setting out and fixing to the existing steel frame allowed us to achieve both without compromising safety.

Safety & Compliance

All works were carried out by CISRS-qualified operatives in line with current safety standards.

The scaffold was securely tied to the existing steel structure, installed with full edge protection, and inspected before handover. All work was completed in accordance with industry best practice and relevant guidance.

Outcome

The scaffold provided safe, reliable access for the solar installation team while allowing the site to remain fully operational throughout the works.

The project was delivered efficiently, with no disruption to ongoing activities at the farm and no delays to the installation programme.
