Skilled & Certified Scaffolders

Power station scaffolding is heavy-duty work. The plant is tall, the outage windows are unforgiving, and the permit system is tight. We supply scaffolding to power generation, CHP, biomass and energy-from-waste plants across the wider Milton Keynes region — typically on framework arrangements, occasionally on one-off outage work.

Our approach on power generation jobs is to embed with the operations team well before the outage. Planning scaffolding at the last minute on a major outage is a recipe for missed programme and cost overrun. We'll sit in outage planning meetings, review draft programmes, and commit to the scaffold scope early enough to let the mechanical and insulation teams plan their labour against a firm scaffold handover date.

What we handle:

  • Outage-driven programming with multi-crew resourcing
  • Permit-to-work integration (hot work, LOTO, confined space)
  • Layher system packages for fast turbine and boiler access
  • Heavy-duty design for plant lift-out and change-out
  • Framework working for repeat outage cycles
  • 24/7 crew availability through the outage window

When you need it

Typical scenarios where power station scaffolding is the right call.

Boiler and turbine outages

Full-scope access for boiler internals, turbine disassembly and rotor inspection, coordinated with the mechanical, insulation and coating trades.

Flue gas and environmental plant

Scaffold access for FGD plant, SCR systems, precipitators and stack work, including coordination with specialist environmental contractors.

Cooling systems and condensers

Internal and external access for cooling tower repair, condenser tube retube, and cooling water system maintenance.

Why programme discipline matters

A power station outage is the biggest single cost in any generator’s calendar. The fleet economics depend on the outage fitting inside its window and the plant returning to service on time. Scaffolding is rarely the critical path on a well-run outage — but it’s almost always the critical path on a badly-planned one.

We avoid that by committing to the scaffold programme early, resourcing firmly, and holding the line on handover dates. If the scaffold is promised for 0800 Tuesday, it’s ready for inspection at 0800 Tuesday. The mechanical team plans against that; any slip on our side cascades immediately into their labour cost.

Framework working

Most of our power generation scaffolding runs under framework arrangements. The advantage for the operator is that we already know the site, the safety rules, the permit format and the outage calendar. The advantage for us is that we can invest in the long-term relationship rather than pitching from cold each outage. If you’re running repeat outage work and you want a scaffold partner who already knows your fleet, that’s what we do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you resource a full major outage?
Yes. Our largest outages have run to 40+ scaffolders on site at peak with multiple supervisors. We'll scale the team to the programme, front-loading for bulk erection, staffing lean during alterations, and ramping back up for the strip. The resourcing plan is built into the quotation.
Do you work under client permit-to-work systems?
Yes — that's standard on power generation. Our supervisors are used to site safety rules including hot work, confined space, LOTO and working at height permits. We integrate directly with your system rather than running a separate one.
Can you supply scaffold with integrated material hoists?
Yes. For boiler and turbine hall work the hoist is often the critical path for moving materials up and waste down, and we'll specify and install the hoist as part of the scaffold package.
Do you have framework experience with DNOs and generators?
Yes. We run long-term framework relationships with generation operators and DNOs across the region — typically on repeat outage cycles where we're the known quantity on the system. If you're looking for a scaffold partner for a multi-year framework, get in touch.
How tight can the outage window be?
Tight. Generation outages often have external constraints — market participation, scheduled return-to-service, contracted availability — that dictate the window. We've worked inside 72-hour turnarounds and multi-week major overhauls. The programme drives the resource, not the other way around.
Are you insured for power generation work?
Yes. Full public and employer's liability insurance suitable for power generation industrial work, plus NASC, CHAS, CITB and SafeContractor accreditation. We meet the prequalification requirements of the UK's main generation operators.
