Project Overview

In Autumn 2019, Milton Keynes hosted the inaugural ‘A Festival of Creative Urban Living’, themed ‘The Built, The Unbuilt and The Unbuildable’. This biennial event brought together artists, architects, designers, and urban planners to explore innovative ideas for urban living. Central to the festival were temporary structures that served as interactive spaces for various activities, including workshops, exhibitions, and communal gatherings.

Our Solution

Milton Keynes Scaffolding Specialists LTD was commissioned to construct the main scaffolding structures for the festival. Collaborating closely with the festival’s curators and designers, we developed scaffolding solutions that were both functional and aligned with the festival’s creative vision.

Scaffolding Features

  • Utopia Station: A prominent high tower made of scaffolding, serving as a creative hub where residents and participants could gather with architects and experts to brainstorm ideas for the future of Milton Keynes.

  • The Meeting Place: A central pavilion offering a space for music, films, performances, talks, workshops, and communal meals, exploring the festival’s themes and celebrating Milton Keynes’ creative spirit.

  • Beds United Pavilion: A reception area designed to connect locals and visitors, facilitating a localized ‘Airbnb’ experience within the vast suburbs of Milton Keynes.

  • Boulevard Broadcast Structure: A mobile radio station designed to engage with the community, collecting and broadcasting stories about future living in Milton Keynes.

The Outcome
